Travel/How To Get Here

Boasting the mildest winters in Canada, Vancouver Island is a beautiful place to visit year round. This year our conference will be held in Nanaimo.

GETTING TO NANAIMO

Nearest airport: YCD (13km from Nanaimo)

Nanaimo is not a walkable city, and transit is not up to the standards of a large city. We recommend renting a vehicle, or budgeting for cabs.

If you're coming from Vancouver:

By car:

You can catch BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay. (105 minutes across). There's free parking available in most areas of Nanaimo.

On foot:

You can also catch BC Ferries for under $20, or Hullo Ferries which travels from downtown Vancouver to downtown Nanaimo in 70 minutes for $40-60. Or, treat yourself to the Harbour Air float plane, which flies downtown Vancouver to downtown Nanaimo in 20 minutes.

WHERE TO STAY

There are various hotels in the $100-200 range in Nanaimo.

The Best Western Dorchester has great seafood and burger restaurants in the lobby. They're also a block from the harbour (where the float plane lands), and Commercial Street which is full of cute shops.

If you're into hostels, the Painted Turtle is very cute and conveniently located just off of Commercial Street.

AirBNB is always an option as well.
